Plastic Pipe Shows Flexibility Necessary for Buried Pipes
Plastic Pipe Shows Flexibility Necessary for Buried Pipes
While buried pipes are especially vulnerable to environmental disasters like tsunamis, landslides, and earthquakes, they are also subject to more subtle ground movement, which can result in cracks or deformation. Rigid clay and concrete pipes buried in Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden show a higher number of defects per kilometer when directly compared with comparable plastic pipes. Unlike their more rigid metal and stonework counterparts, plastic pipe can stand up to changes in ground environment much better. A recent engineering report published by the European Plastic Pipes and Fittings Association (TEPPFA) shows that plastic pipe is the only option that can cushion blows from heavy soil loads. Flexible plastic pipes are much less likely to fail due to brittle cracking as under pressure, the pipes will flex and deform, which lowers the stress on the pipe. This makes plastic the ideal choice for crucial infrastructure pipelines as they have a much lower failure rate, even when subjected to drastic environmental conditions. To learn more, click here.
