What Is Saddle Fusion?
Saddle or sidewall fusion is used to join a saddle to the side of a pipe by heating the external surface of the pipe and the matching surface of the fitting. A tool is used to insure proper heating, alignment and force control. This process can be conducted while pressurized creating a “hot tap” when allowed by regulations and the pipeline owner. The pipe and saddle fitting surfaces are heated until they reach a proper temperature, the heating tool is removed and then the weld is formed. The process is complete following a cooling process. Always have a trained joining operator perform this procedure using properly maintained equipment.
