PPI Updates Its Building & Construction Division Pipe Design Calculator
PPI Updates Its Building & Construction Division Pipe Design Calculator
The Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) has updated its plastic pipe design calculator for its Building & Construction Division (BCD). The version 2.0 update includes a new user interface, updated pipe and tubing selection menu, links to BCD material webpages, and hundreds of new pipe materials and sizes to choose from.
The BCD Calculator is a free software tool that makes material selection easier for applications such as plumbing, fire protection, water service, and hydronic piping of liquids. “This online tool includes five main functions which can be used to select and size the right type of pipe for various applications,” said Lance MacNevin, P. Eng., director of engineering for PPI’s Building & Construction Division. “These are pressure/head loss; pipe weight/volume; thermal expansion and contraction; hydraulic shock; and expansion arm/loop design. This update contains hundreds of new pipe materials and sizes. During the past several years, we listened to input from users of the original version of the calculator, and made improvements plus added new features that make it easier to use.”

Uponor Donates $30,000 to Support Texas Storm Relief
Uponor Donates $30,000 to Support Texas Storm Relief
Uponor, manufacturer of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) pipes for residential plumbing systems, donated $30,000 for Texas storm relief after the crippling winter storm that left 14.5 million Texans (half the population) without clean, safe water for drinking, cleaning, and cooking. After hearing the call from North Charleston, South Carolina-based Water Mission, Uponor North America donated $15,000 to Water Mission and another $15,000 to the American Red Cross Central and South Texas Region to bring the resources needed for the recovery effort to the areas that needed it most. Water Mission worked to bring skilled labor, tools, and materials to the region to help restore water to homes in areas overwhelmed by the lack of plumbers and materials.
"Our hearts go out to those in Texas impacted by the extreme weather and the damage caused to homes and businesses," Uponor North America President Bill Gray said in a news release. "We understand the importance of clean, healthy water and proudly stand behind the trade professionals who work hard every day to ensure our plumbing systems are delivering this life resource consistently and reliably."
